Amendment III

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

The 3rd amendment is of critical importance as it protects the right of homeowners to decide whether or not to provide hospitality to soldiers. Some soldiers may take advantage of such an opportunity to gain information about the opposition from the homeowner-possibly by threat of the homeowners' life. If the 3rd amendment was not in effect, chaos could be the norm of such situations.

This clip depicts the application of the third amendment. Soldiers cannot be quartered in any house in times of peace or war, unless the owner consents to it, or if the law requires the owner to do so.

This clip also shows that soldiers are not allowed to stay with a homeowner without their consent.
